GGRC Digital Library of Graduate Research
Purpose and Positioning
The GGRC Digital Library is the first shared scholarly platform dedicated to graduate research on reconvergence themes across the Global South. It complements existing and planned national repositories by offering intercontinental visibility, thematic curation, and cross-border research communities.
National repositories preserve graduate work and may be mandatory. Participation in the GGRC Library is always elective: universities choose whether to join, and students choose whether to submit.
The Library is selective by theme rather than a general archive. Graduate work is mapped onto the GGRC’s journal architecture, ensuring thematic clarity and enabling future authors to draw directly from the Library’s growing corpus.
Successful examination serves as the scholarly validation for inclusion, paralleling peer review for established journals.
The Role of the University
Early member institutions receive permanently free access (via institutional email login) and may submit annually a generous quantity of successfully examined works without charge.
Institutions retain full autonomy over internal processes and may levy administrative charges on students or departments, irrespective of whether any remittance is due to the GGRC.
The work an institution passes is what is uploaded: words, font, diagrams, tables, and so on. Sensitive work may remain in-house at the university’s discretion.
Each participating institution ideally appoints an Academic Liaison. The Academic Liaison:
- ensures institutional awareness
- oversees thematic submissions
- approves metadata
- submits to the GGRC Secretariat
- liaises with the GGRC as required
A Campus Advocate, an easy student volunteer role, may also be helpful in raising awareness. Advocates disseminate information, explain thematic codes, support students who wish to participate, and speak about the GGRC more generally. Local GGRC team presence may assist as needed.
Research Student Participation
For graduate researchers, the Library offers a moment of agency and pride. A thesis earns a degree, and national repositories preserve it where they exist. The GGRC allows a student to decide whether their work should be seen internationally.
Many welcome the idea that their thesis becomes part of a shared Global South knowledge movement.
Once uploaded, students may join topic-specific WhatsApp groups to read updates, discuss research, find collaborators, share opportunities, attend events, or simply observe. Participation is optional.
The Submission Process
The workflow is designed to be simple.
Metadata Submission
Students complete a short Google Form capturing:
- name
- institution
- supervisor
- topic code (with catch-all options available)
- thesis title
- keywords
- 100-word abstract
- journal base
The Academic Liaison reviews metadata, confirms the thematic code, and compiles approved entries into a batch upload spreadsheet.
The thematic code is the only part of the process likely to generate discussion, but the workflow is straightforward: the student and supervisor propose; the Academic Liaison confirms; the GGRC approves.
GGRC librarians review batch submissions and return approved batches within a few days. Students are notified via university email and receive optional social media templates announcing forthcoming publication.
Uploading the Thesis
The University preferably uploads the final PDF for which the degree was conferred, although student upload is possible if necessary.
The GGRC publishes the PDF as submitted; there is no rekeying. Specialist formats can be handled case by case. The imprimatur of examination success is final and dispositive.
Uploads are completed within days, and a certificate of publication is provided. The ethos is quick and uncomplicated.
Citation and Interoperability
Each published work receives a seventeen-character GGRC citation. The structure identifies:
- the institution’s worldwide code
- its national code
- the batch number
- the year of topic submission
- the thematic area
For example: WW009 GH02 B07 27035.
This ensures interoperability with the journal architecture and facilitates later author ability to draw directly from the Library.
Access, Visibility, and Author Rights
Visibility is controlled but generous. All network universities have full reading access; alumni access is determined by institution.
Private dissemination of papers is unrestricted. Republication elsewhere is permitted with citation. Authors retain full freedom to publish their work elsewhere. Withdrawal requests are honoured promptly and without objection.
The GGRC will never sell access to individual papers or thematic collections, nor transfer ownership of the database outside GGRC countries. Access is restricted to member institutions. The database is a core institutional asset, vested within the countries it serves.
Opening Timetable
The opening timetable is phased to ensure clarity and quality.
- The inaugural curriculum is finalised.
- Abstract submission and network member onboarding are ongoing and on schedule.
- Discussions on author or university onboarding may be initiated by the GGRC, by universities, or by prospective student authors.
- Should a researcher submit a valid proposal, the GGRC will gladly initiate university contact.
Q1 2027 – first searchable topic-level information becomes available.
Q2 2027 – first full works may be submitted; the Library fully opens this quarter.
Q3 2027 – significant material expected to be displayed.
Q4 2027 – the second year of operation begins.
From January 2027, institutions may also submit prior-year or re-examined work, though this does not form part of the founding fifty complimentary service.
Governance
The Academic Council Executive, initially comprising six to eight members drawn from the first ten to twelve university Academic Leads, will oversee curriculum, standards, formal policy documents, and related matters.
The overall aims and programme of the GGRC are documented and available to Academic Network members.
The Digital Library of Graduate Research is the first component to be unveiled within the academic pathway, with further elements to be introduced formally in due course.

Closing Note
The Digital Library offers international reach, thematic curation, community, prestige, and visibility. It is intended to become a significant shared resource for the Global South as the Great Global Reconvergence continues to unfold.
We are grateful to all those involved in the Library’s inception and to the universities and scholars whose participation is helping to shape this new academic architecture.
